    TLED FAQs

What is the difference between Type A and Type B LED tubes?

Type A (known as InstantFit for Philips) lamps can be operated directly on existing fluorescent ballasts. This is the simplest and fastest way for end users to switch to LED technology. Type B (known as MainsFit for Philips) lamps operate directly on mains voltage, ranging from 120v to 277v. The customer or the installer will have to bypass the existing fluorescent ballast and connect the main power to the sockets in the fixtures prior to installing the Type B lamps.

What ballasts are compatible with Type A InstantFit LED lamps?

The compatibility varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and Philips offer the most extensive compatibility list available in the market. Please see the link for the latest compatibility list.

Can I use T8 TLED lamps in T12 fluorescent fixtures?

For Type B, MainsFit TLED lamps, the answer is yes. Since the T12 fluorescent lamps use the same G13 medium bi-pin sockets as T8 products, LED tubes can be operated on these sockets once powered directly to mains power. Philips also offer the Universal TLED lamps that can operate directly on existing magnetic ballast, popular with T12 fluorescent products.

What type of socket is required for Type B application?

Since all of the MainsFit Type B lamps from Signify are double ended, both shunted and non-shunted sockets can be used, provided they are in good condition. For operation on non-shunted socket, It is recommended to use a jump wire to shunt the tombstone.
