A clearer picture of light ratings

Philips lighting Facts Labels

Light is changing, and the world of commerce is changing with it. To help consumers understand light bulb efficiency, EISA legislation directed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to change its current labelling requirements for bulbs. Manufacturers are now required to provide brightness (lumens) and energy-cost information on packaging within a detailed “Lighting Facts” label. This applies to all medium-based general service incandescent, halogen, LED and compact fluorescent bulbs.
The new labels will help consumers to base their purchase decision on the brightness (lumens) of the bulb and cost of operation, instead of the wattage. As energy-efficient light bulbs become more available and high-wattage light bulbs are phased out, consumers will benefit greatly from this new information.
